A dedication.

Today I encountered another mother who was having one of those days.  You know the kind: where you feel  like nothing you do is right and that you are one of (if not the) worst mothers ever.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know her well enough to know whether she needed an oh God I know what you’re going through kind of moment, or if she needed a peppy it’ll be okay kind of encouragement.  So I wasn’t sure what to do to make her feel better.  And I felt bad about it.

So here’s my little entry dedicated to her:

We all have those days.  Sometimes those days extend into weeks, and even months.  Nobody always feels like they have it all together, no matter how well they appear to be doing.  No. One.  Every single one of us feels guilty about the decisions we choose, and feels like we’re not doing it right.  I think it’s because our children mean so much to us that we think they deserve nothing but the very, very best; they deserve perfection.  And we know we are human and are not always perfect, so we feel like we’re falling short.  But know this, we are raising little humans.  They do not require perfection.  So while we’re doing the very best we can, sometimes it’s not going to be perfect.  And that’s okay.  And it’s also okay to feel guilty about it.  But don’t torture yourself.  I think that we’re all allowed to have days when we’re not at our best, and we should not be measured by those days, but instead by what we do as a whole.  So please know that you are not alone.  Also, you are not the worst mother on earth.  Trust me.
